HVAC Training
Technical schools and community colleges offer programs in heating, air-conditioning, and refrigeration that can range from 6 months to extensive 2 year diploma courses. Training covers not just theory and design, but also installation and repair. On completion of these programs, technicians are required to work as apprentices for up to two years. Median hourly earnings for HVAC mechanics in 2004 was $17.50, with top earners reporting earnings of $27.
