Human resource management focuses on recruiting, managing, and releasing the people who work in an organization. Functions like hiring, compensation, safety, benefits, and performance appraisals are just a few of the primary duties carried out by human resource management. In many large corporations, HR managers act as the buffer between employees and top level management. Because the scope of the field is so vast, there is a diverse range of career options available in the industry.

Education Required for a Career in Human Resource Management
For entry level positions, most employers prefer persons with a bachelor’s degree in human resource and labor relations, while others may look for college graduates with a more balanced liberal arts education. Those who have been able to gain some exposure in the field through part time work programs are highly regarded for entry level jobs. Although there might not be a lot of direct interaction with people from outside the organization, in many human resource management areas, workers are expected to have excellent communication skills.

Career Prospects in Human Resource Management
As older workers retire or are replaced by newer ones, human resource specialists will continue to enjoy consistent demand. In addition, newer federal policies regarding healthcare, equal opportunity, pensions, and benefits will mean that companies will be required to update their employee benefit regulations and policies. As newer technological advances render worker skills obsolete, there will be enhanced demand specifically for employee training specialists. However, human resource specialists are just as vulnerable to employee overhauls as a result of downsizing or mergers, which is why a masters degree in human resource management is great asset in the field. The median annual salary for employee training human resource specialists in 2004 was $45K, with highest earners making up to $75K.
